CMIL - Thompson Square: Our ACM Nominations Are ‘Unbelievable’

Today wasn’t just any Thursday for Keifer and Shawna Thompson of Thompson Square. The couple, who is currently vying for the title of Academy of Country Music Top New Artist, woke up to the news that they had received another ACM nomination. This time for Vocal Duo of the Year.
“We woke up this morning to the email. It’s just another moment like we had all year – just completely elated,” Keifer tells CountryMusicIsLove. “[We] just can’t believe that this is [our] life right now. It’s unbelievable.”
“Disbelief every time we get a phone call like that,” Shawna adds.
Both ACM nominations mean a lot to the duo, but Keifer tells us the fan-voted New Artist of the Year award is extra special.
“To be nominated and win an award your fans vote on is the ultimate compliment,” he says. “They pay the money for the tickets, and they pay the money for the songs, the downloads, all the other stuff. And that’s the reason why you write music, why you record and why you’re doing 270 shows a year. That’s who you’re trying to reach. For them to reciprocate like that, it means so much.”
The 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards is sure be another memorable night for Keifer and Shawna- just like last year’s ACM Awards.
“One of the really memorable things for me was that was the week ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not’ was number one,” Shawna recalls. “So when we walked the red carpet, we had something fun to talk about. Because when you’re a new artist, you’re new, and you might not have something too exciting to talk about, but that was pretty cool.”
“We got excited – we were the only ones in the whole building who had a number one that week,” Keifer adds with a laugh.
Thompson Square will embark on a new journey tomorrow when they hit the road with Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum on the “Own The Night 2012 World Tour.”
